Overtime Snacking

IMG_2342

It always seems to happen on the days you least expect it; you are ordered to stay over. This flu season has been affecting everyone, and if you have not caught that flu bug yet, I am willing to bet it has affected your kids or someone close to you. I make it a ritual to wipe down my dispatch area with Lysol wipes before and after my shift. I know some patrol officers take an entire can of Lysol wipes in their units, use antibacterial hand sanitizer and even bring their patrol car to the car wash religiously! We go through all this extra effort to not get sick, and if we are not the ones getting sick, then our partners are, and we are found working emptyhanded with unplanned meals.

There are plenty of options to snack on instead snacking on whatever is found laying around in the station, or seeing what is in the community fridge (plus who knows how long that food has been sitting there for!). Side note I swear that there is someone who is trying to grow a science experiment in our fridge at work!

The healthy snacks are out there, and if you are not able to order from a restaurant, your healthy snack can generally be found at a convenience store (this is also great for those spur of the moment road trips!).

What to grab:
  1. Protein Shakes
  2. Tuna packets (some even come with a to-go spoon)
  3. Almonds (try for un-salted)
  4. Cashews (try for un-salted)
  5. Mixed Nuts
  6. Kind Bars
  7. Power Crunch Bars (whatever the bar of choice may be watch for low sugar and fat)
  8. Beef Jerky (try for low sodium and low sugar)
  9. Fruit cups (The ones with fresh fruit, not the ones packed in sugar or syrup)
  10. Bananas
  11. Apples
  12. Grapes
  13. Peanut Butter Singles (ex. Justin's Classic organic peanut butter), also perfect for putting on your bananas and apples!

My top 3 easy to make for on the go:
These gotos are simple because if I am going to be completely honest, I am a horrible cook! No joke!

 1/2C Kernels
1 Tblspn Coconut Oil
Directions: While pan is heating put in the coconut oil and let it heat up. Drop in 4 kernels. Please put the lid on the pot! Once those kernels start popping throw in the rest. Once the popping slows down, turn off the stove and sprinkle as needed with Sea Salt! Throw it in a few sandwich bags, and you are good to go!

Either pre-make it or bring the powder with you.
1 scoop of UMP protein powder by Beverly International (I prefer Chocolate or Grahm Cracker)
Water. Mix just enough to make it the consistency of pudding.
Grub and enjoy (I have been eating this for three years non stop!)

1 1/2 tbsp nut butter
3 tbsp oats
1/2 tbsp honey
1/2 tbsp dark chocolate chips
Mix ingredients together, Roll Into balls and off you go! Sweet Craving fix!
